METALLICA To Support ROLLING STONES At London's Wembley Stadium?
March 29, 2007Launch Radio Networks reports that ROLLING STONES, PAUL MCCARTNEY, THE WHO and U2 might all be signing on for this summer's Live Earth concerts on July 7. According to FoxNews.com, the STONES will headline the London concert at Wembley Stadium, on a bill that will also include MADONNA, RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS, METALLICA, singer-songwriter JAMES BLUNT, and modern rock outfit BLOC PARTY. The report adds that MCCARTNEY, THE WHO, and U2 will likely sign on in the coming weeks, but there was no indication of where they might perform.
It should be noted that METALLICA is already confirmed to play the Wembley Stadium as a headliner on July 8, making their participation in the Live Earth concerts somewhat unlikely. THE WHO have a gig in Roskilde, Denmark, on July 7, while the STONES are booked to play in Rome the night before (July 6),so this would be the only time on their European tour that they'd play back-to-back shows.
Live Earth is a series of concerts that's being spearheaded by Al Gore to help spread his message of climate change. There are supposed to be seven shows on seven continents on July 7, 2007.
Artists who have already been announced include BON JOVI, SHERYL CROW, FOO FIGHTERS, MELISSA ETHERIDGE, DURAN DURAN, JOHN MAYER, "American Idol" winner KELLY CLARKSON, rapper SNOOP DOGG, R&B singers CORINNE BAILEY RAE and JOHN LEGEND, and country superstars FAITH HILL & TIM MCGRAW.
